17th Annual Golf Tournaments
|
The 17th Annual Alumni Golf Tourney was held on Saturday
June, 16th 2007 at the Prairies of Cahokia Golf Club.
We had 152 Golfers and many others who attended the
dinner and social afterwards. The committee outdid
themselves with commemorative gifts and sponsors for the event.
The team captained by Chris Moebes (son of Clint Moebes 67)
is the new tournament champions with a score of 56. The B flight
champions were captained by Victor Zarrilli with a score of 66.
There was also a hole in one (on the wrong hole) by a member of the
Stockmann team (Dick 68 & Bill 69) that would have gotten them
a skin if they had been in the skins game. There were two skins
worth $250.00 each. One was earned by the Dressler 72 Neff 72
team captained by Jim Dressler 72 and the championship team
captained by Chris Moebes.
We installed two new Men of the Year at this years tourney.
John Wosman 72 was President of the Student Body and a
Co-Captain of the 72 Fighting Braves Football Team. John has
been a great supporter of the Alumni Association and the Golf
Tournament since its inception. The second inductee is Pete
Stevener who was our typing teacher and cross country/track
coach at the Academy. Pete is another loyal supporter who makes
every golf tournament and helps with the set-up and during the
day so that we can enjoy ourselves the way we do.
Several coaches, teachers and their wives were in attendance;
John & Janet Dring, Phil Noser, Bob Benben, Pete Stevener,
Harry & Gina Ernst, and Jay & Louisa Evertt. Many of their
old students enjoyed reminiscing with them.
The alum that traveled farthest for this tourney went to Marty
Brown 65, co-captain with Frank Ulrich of the 65 Fighting Braves
football team, who traveled north from Austin, Texas. Another
alum from the Class of 65 made an anonymous donation to the
scholarship fund to dedicate the first hole to Frank Ulrich 65 and
John Nichols 65 (both deceased) who were two of the toughest
football players in Academy history.
The tournament was a great success and the committee did a
yeomans job in orchestrating the event. At this time we would
like to thank the friends and alumni who graciously sponsored
holes and donated prizes for this event. The committee is already
planning next years tourney and it should be another great one.
There are a couple of people who we would like to thank for the help
obtaining supplies and prizes for the golf tournament. They are: Ray
Miller 70, Dennis Ferguson 72, Rex Gmerek 72, C. Rallo Construction Co.,
Bill Holtzman, Mike Hixon, Andrew Maull & the Maulls Barbeque Sauce Company,
Morgan Street Brewery, Sgt. Tony Aubuchon, Steve Hall, Pepsi-Cola,
Don Rataj 72 and all of our hole-sponsors. We will be adding a sponsor page
on our website that will have the hole-sponsors name, phone number and a
link to their webpage if available. Please, if you are in need of their
services we ask that you do so for their support of our Association
and the Scholarship Fund.

16th Annual Golf Tournaments
|
The 16th Annual Alumni Golf Tourney was an overwhelming success.
We had a great day even if it did rain for about an
hour and the beer girls didn't show up. They
went to St. Charles, hmmm? Doesn't even sound
like Cahokia had a great time anyway.
The food was great as always. Paul and his crew did a
great job on the brats for lunch and the Prairies did
a great job on dinner. The beer was cold. Who could
ask for more. We had Fr. Bill Lego and Fr. Terry Deffenbaugh
'65 representing the order.
The winners; TEAM TABASH with a score of 58.
The team captained by Ed Tabash '66 was comprised of Ed
and his sons. They were in form. Second place; a
mixed team with Phil Miceli and Rick Syberg from St.
Mary's and Herm Newsham '72 of the Academy, don't
know who their fourth was. Probably someone from
the Academy Varsity Golf Squad with a score of 60.
Third was captured by last years Champions in scorecard
playoff. The team; Rick Hastings, Gino Frigo, Chick Pfeil
and Rich Gartner all of the Class of '73 sporting thier
Rich Gartner for Associate Circuit Judge shirts with a
score of 61. Two skins were captured, one by the Hastings
'73 team and the other by Vince Becker's team.
Fr. Bill gave a little history of who was where and an
update on Fr. Jack who is back at Tolentine and doing well.
Give him a call if you get a chance.
Coaches Benben and Mackenzie spoke about their state tourney
teams in basketball, baseball and soccer (this was a
district team due to the fact that soccer was in its
infancy and only played in St. Louis. Both men were
entertaining and they introduced the team members who
were at the tournament. The Association printed a souveneir
booklet for the team members commemorating their accomplishments.
The raffle was held and everyone went home from a great
day in anticipation of next year.

15th and 14th Annual Golf Tournaments
|
The 15th Annual Alumni Tournament was held June 18, 2005
at the Prairies of Cahokia Golf Club. We had 152 golfers
and perfect weather. Paul and the bbq crew did a yeoman's
job on the brats for lunch. We again wish to thank our
friends at AB for the liquid refreshments.
The reigning champions; Jim Dressler, John Neff both of
the class of '72 and their partners were unseated by the
class of '73 team captained by Rick Hastings '73 along with
Chick Pfeil '73, Gino Frigo '73 and Kevin Hastings son of
Rick in a score card playoff both teams finished with a score of 68.
The 14th Annual Golf Tourney, thanks to everyone's participation
was an overwhelming success. The tourney netted over
$7,000.00 for the Alumni Scholarship Fund. It was a great
summer day and a great time was had by all.
The reigning tournament champions -- Team Tabash made up
of Ed Tabash '66 and his sons lost their crown to the team
Captained by John Neff '72 and Jim Dressler '72. This team
has won the "Red Jacket" 3 times before.
The Prairies of Cahokia put on a great spread, though not
as good as those put on by Chef Paul Eckinger '72 and his
BBQ crew. There were several cases of AB product consumed
at the tourney. We want to thank our friends at AB who
donated the beverages as well as all of our friends who
donated prizes and promotional items for the raffle.
Read more about both events in the September 30, 2005
issue of the "Fighting Braves Journal".
